Parable of the Leaven

Leaven is like yeast. It is a noun and a verb – It is and it does. It’s characteristic impacts and acts everything around. The Kingdom of God silently is, and acts.

Overview

A little for a lot. It is:

    • Smoothly distributed
    • Silently effective
    • Supremely impactful

Bible Passage

Matthew 13:33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

Bible Passage

Luke 13:20 Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? 21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

A little for a lot

The kingdom of heaven appears little and inconsequential but, like yeast has a powerful impact nevertheless. Never underestimate the power within us to change the world around.

A little for a lot

Influences

Jesus uses leaven as both a positive and negative influence. As a negative influence, ironically it was the religious leaders brining on the corrupting influence Luke 12:1 beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.

As a positive influence, the kingdom people work together to change the world – the dough.

Smoothly distributed

The mixing process is essential for best effect.

The more the spread the greater the influence

They need to spread out, not clump together for better influence.

Smoothly distributed

Smoothly distributed

We, as Christians are to mix with the world around being “not of but in the world”

Influencing without getting influenced

Leaven has a negative connotation as well.. There are bad influences at work as well polluting the positive effect.

We need to counter those and over come them.

Silently effective

We are influencial for Christ.

Just demonstrating the character of Christ is enough to bear influence.

In addition talking, sharing, as Christ did adds to that influence.

Everyday… we live that influence with everyone we meet.

Silently effective

Supremely impactful

“all through the dough“

It transforms the entire dough irreversibly. This transformation takes time and the right environment..

It is happening

It will eventually happen.

The world will be irreversibly changed for the best.

Discussion

Share some examples of how we can be:

1.A little for a lot

2.Silently effective

3.Smoothly distributed

4.Supremely impactful.
